About Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville Town itself has become very developed and caters largely to the Chinese tourist market with casinos and a large number of restaurants serving the type of food Chinese people like to eat. For non-Chinese tourists the most appealing parts of Sihanoukville are some distance from the town itself: Otres Beach and Koh Rong. Otres Beach is 13 km to the east of Sihanoukville town centre. The journey takes about 25 minutes in a tuk tuk. The long narrow Otres Beach has a laid back feel with plenty of cheap beach side resorts, bars and restaurants. Otres Beach attracts mostly younger travellers from Europe and North America as well as a fairly large number of Cambodian people coming for a trip to the beach.

For even better beaches, and a even more laid back atmosphere, then we recommend that you take a speedboat from the pier on Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanoukville town for the 30 minute journey to Koh Rong Island. Koh Rong has 23 white sand beaches. Kaoh Touch beach on the south east side of the island is a cheap and lively destination appealing to younger visitors. Sok San Beach on the west side of Koh Rong has more expensive accommodation and tends to appeal more to older visitors.
